Since I am an immigration attorney, I usually write about visas, immigration quotas, immigration compliance rules and other matters related to my practice area, but as my 11 year old daughter, Ivanka, recently reminded me, there are many other important topics, including environmental issues. She drafted the following letter on recycling, and I think it is important enough to include in my blog:
RECYCLING
- Computer paper
- Aluminum cans
- Cardboard egg cartons
- Milk jugs
- Newspapers
- Cereal boxes
- Glass bottles
- Batteries
- Some electronic equipment, including computers
- Clothing
These are just a few of the items that can be recycled. To learn more, go to www.earth911.com/recycling, and www.wikipedia.org/wiki/recycling. To learn more about how you can recycle in your own city, visit www.wmorangecounty.com and/or http://www.edcodisposal.com/recycling/e-waste.html

John,
How old is your daughter? She’s obviously quite engaged in the world around her, which is admirable. If she would like to explore the topic of recycling computer waste, have her read this article (or watch the segment) recently reported by 60 minutes. It’s here: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/11/06/60minutes/main4579229.shtml. Very troubling. What will she be reporting on next??

Ivanka just turned 11 last month. As you can see, she is very capable of doing my work on the blogs! I suppose I am employing child labor — but she really likes writing. We were both shocked by the e-waste problem discussed on 60 minutes. Maybe I can interest her in writing immigration blogs next!
