Implementation of Rule for Use of New Form I-9 Delayed

January 30th, 2009 · No Comments

Like many other areas of the law, immigration law will likely change substantially under the new Obama administration.  It appears that Obama’s administrative officials will review all pending new rules, including the implementation of the new Form I-9.  I wrote about this new form in an earlier blog

The new Form I-9 was targeted for use beginning February 2, 2009, but the USCIS has postponed its implementation until April 3, 2009, so that the administration can review the regulation requiring the new Form I-9.  The administration will also be reviewing many other pending immigration rules, and some regulations will likely change from the original versions fashioned by the Bush administration, including a rule to implement more changes to E-Verify, an electronic employment verification system.

The Long Beach immigration attorneys will keep you up-to-date on changes in the immigration laws.  It should be an exciting year for immigration, and I anticipate several changes in regulations and statutes.
